WHAT SERVICES DOES DIMA OFFER?

Initially, DIMA is offering weekly private lessons on the following instruments: guitar, drums, piano, voice, ukulele, and bass. We do not currently offer strings or wind instrument lessons, nor any group classes at this time, though we hope to offer these in the near future.

WHAT'S THE CANCELATION/RESCHEDULE POLICY?

Students are allowed two rescheduled lessons in a rolling 60 day window for any lesson canceled with 24+ hours notice. Canceling and rescheduling lessons should be done by the parent/student through our online portal. Day-of cancellations are non-reschedulable in order to protect the time and income of our instructors. This includes day-of sick cancellations, and it is simply about honoring the time the instructor has committed to for that day. This helps make DIMA a sustainable place to work for our instructors. Similarly, cancellations in excess of two in the rolling 60 day window are also non-reschedulable. This is so that our instructors do not have an excess of unpaid cancellations in their schedules. We have learned that consistency in our instructors’ schedules and income goes a long way towards long-term instructor retention, and we thank you for understanding our need to enforce these policies.

ARE INSTRUCTORS CHRISTIANS AND WORSHIP MUSICIANS? DO STUDENTS AND FAMILIES HAVE TO BE CHRISTIANS OR CHURCH OF THE HOLY SPIRIT MEMBERS FOR LESSONS?

All DIMA instructors are Christians involved in their own local churches, and many have a specialty in either contemporary or traditional worship music, in addition to careers in music beyond the church walls. However, lessons are 100% open to any and every student, regardless of involvement in church or a family's religious background.

WILL MY STUDENT HAVE RECITALS?

All students will have multiple opportunities to perform each year! Instructors will help find each student at least two performance opportunities over the course of each year. For most, this will include one traditional-style recital with their instructor and their other students. Further opportunities for students to perform include but are not limited to DIMA “All-Play” events (great for beginners and young students!), public community events, worship services and events with Church of the Holy Spirit, etc. We hope that students and instructors can find a variety of ways to perform around the community as they advance in their skill level and expect that this focus on musical community engagement will be the heartbeat of our school in the long-term!

WHAT DOES MY STUDENT NEED FOR LESSONS?

Individual instructors will communicate with students around needs for gear and curriculum, but students will need their own instrument at home to practice. Students may also need small accessories such as a tuner for their guitar or a sustain pedal for an electric keyboard. Instructors may also ask students to purchase curriculum such as beginner piano books.

Guitar and ukulele students need to bring their instruments to lessons, but drums and pianos will be provided at the lesson.

ARE THERE OPPORTUNITIES TO PLAY IN WORSHIP SERVICES AT CHURCH OF THE HOLY SPIRIT?

Yes! We are developing specific pipelines for students to play in worship services at Holy Spirit, with age/experience-appropriate and genre-appropriate opportunities, and we hope to partner with other local churches in this goal as well. Ask your instructor about opportunities to play at Holy Spirit, if they haven't already mentioned it to you!
